Some Peas and our Chicken Alarm

IMG_7623web
Ashley and Baron picked these from the garden today. Mind you we are enjoying this crop today because of our chickens. Yes. The other day we were sitting on the couch when we noticed that the chickens were clucking rather loudly. I went to the window expecting a prowling neighborhood cat. I didn’t find a cat, but DID see a nice young deer munching on Ashley’s vegetable garden. I shoo’d him away and he mosied on down the alley. After Ashley saw him leave, we both had a nice laugh at the alarming chickens. Thanks ladies (hens). You definitely earned your feed this week. Now how about some fresh eggs!!

A Day to Remember : Roman’s Birth-Day Stats

This content was taken from the St. Joes Peace Health Baby site. It’s a nice little service they offer of photographing all the babies born there and putting them up online. It’s actually pretty entertaining just looking through and reading all the names that people choose for their babies. And these super candid snaps are pretty funny as well.
I’m happy to note that Roman shares his birthday with “The Duke”!!! The first thing I told Roman when he entered this world, “Courage is being scared to death… and saddling up anyway.” (Which is better than another famous John Wayne quote: “Life is tough, but it’s tougher when you’re stupid.”)

Ashley and Gabriel have chosen the name Roman Victor for their beautiful new son born May 16, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital.

Back by Popular Demand

Had many requests for more photos of the boys, the little-ist one especially. As you can imagine we’ve been a bit busy adapting and working. These are the photos I have for now. You’ll see that Baron loves his little brother “Baby Roman. ” And that he like to kiss Roman. Baron also gets a kick out of the fact that Roman can’t control his arms and sometimes flails them into Baron’s face. Another note: if your two year old bonks his head on something (anything will do really. Baron doesn’t seem particular, he’ll hit his head on just about anything and without warning) you can use an otter pop to alleviate both the physical and emotional trauma that comes with such an often occurring injury. :)

Happy Birthday Garrett

Yeah, we were cool even then. I think my hair pretty much looks the same, but I don’t have any cool red overalls anymore.

On a more serious note, I’ve been blessed with a really great family. My brothers are rad and today is Garrett’s Birthday. We’re getting together on Friday to do something that we’ve done ever since I can remember… play video games! ha. I remember when Garrett and I used to get 25 cents for allowance and we’d hop the fence in our backyard, run across the field to Tastee Freeze and spend our weekly allowance on a game of Super Mario Bros. (Arcade Style). Guess not much has changed except video games cost a little more and our allowance is a little more too.

We Youtube’d “Tractors” and baron loves to watch these videos. Is technology the new babysitter? Well not in our house, but it is nice to be able to put one on for 5 minutes of peach while I finish an email. :)

Apparently Egg Plant is the way to go… into labor

We’ve been hearing about all of the ways to aid my wife’s body into labor and one piece of advice came up that I had never heard of (but Ashley seemed to be familiar with the concept). Somebody at the farmers market told us to eat egg plant. We thought about heading over to Olive Garden but haven’t. Turns our there is a restaurant has a dish “guaranteed” to induce labor. See the story here.

How to go into Labor?

I think Ashley could write a book with all the tips, tricks and unsolicited advice that is thrown at a pregnant women in the last dregs of her pregnancy. There are the traditional wives tails tales such as eat spicy foods, go for long walks, etc. (most of which we’ve tried) and then there are others that I’m hearing for the first time like, eat eggplant and take natural concoctions.

Ashley may hate me for it now, but I thought it’d be easier for everyone to post your “Get Labor Moving” suggestions here rather than bombarding her or other pregnant women with them. Now I’ve never been pregnant (with no long-term plans of ever being pregnant) but my thought is that at this stage of the pregnancy (day two beyond due date), they don’t want to hear anything other than, “PUSH!!”
